about me

Back in the mid-80's, when faced with a choice of pursuing either cosmetology or plumbing, I flipped a coin. Obviously, it came up "heads." (I still like to wear my jeans low-slung, though....) I became certified and licensed, then moved to Amsterdam and ran a small salon on a canal houseboat for 3 years. I freelanced throughout my college years, then worked at Rudy's in Seattle for 6 years until it became time to start a solo enterprise.

Having cut my teeth in the hair industry back in the wild-haired '80s, I endeavor to maintain the sense of playfulness and abandon in my aesthetic. I travel to hair shows throughout the US and especially Europe, staying on top of the trends and keeping my outlook fresh. But above all, I strive to communicate with each individual client, creating and maintaining looks that bring out their best features and express their unique personalities.

Since winter '04, I've had the pleasure of doing models' hair for several fashion spreads in Tablet magazine. Working with models and photographers is great fun, and I hope to pursue such work with other publications as well.

When I'm not cutting and sweeping up hair, I like to get out in my kayak, go snowboarding, climb rocks, ride my bike, and act in local theatres. I travel overseas once or twice a year, and have been called a polyglot as I am something of a language geek. I'm very involved in my Burning Man camp, Hippocampus, with whom I collaborate on large-scale art projects throughout the months leading up to the event which takes place in the first week of each September.

I live in my Capitol Hill workspace with my beloved boa constrictor, Marcel.
